Michel Lafarge was one of Burgundy's most respected family growers, farming the same Volnay vineyards for generations without chasing trends. Clos des Chênes is one of Volnay's finest single vineyards — this is about as serious as red Burgundy gets from a producer who never needed to shout about it.
